Whether it’s your home or your business, your roof is something that you depend on to keep you safe from Mother Nature’s elements and the highs and lows that we experience here in Blountsville. Unfortunately, our roof isn’t always going to be in pristine condition. There will be certain things that cause damage to our roof and leave it in a less than ideal state, which, as you may have guessed, is less than ideal for you.

Bullard Roofing has provided high-quality roofing services to the Blountsville area for years. From roof repairs and inspections to full-blown roofing projects, we are a roofing company that you can trust to get the job done.

In today’s blog, we are going to go over a few of the roofing problems that you need to be able to recognize. A majority of these are issues that, if gone without a professional for too long, can lead to much bigger problems.

NOT ENOUGH ROOF VENTILATION

Ventilation is a pretty important factor of just about every part of our homes, and it’s relatively easy to recognize too. If your attic feels as though it’s warmer than the actual temperature outside, there’s a good chance that you don’t have enough roof ventilation. The downside of this issue is that your roof isn’t venting out any humid, warm air regularly, which leaves your attic and roof at risk of mold and mildew. In places like Blountsville, this is something that every roof needs to be able to do given the levels of humidity that we experience.

BAD SEALANT

Sealant is another thing that is very important when it comes to roofs, as one might anticipate. Unfortunately, inexperienced roofers will often make the mistake of using too much or too little sealant on the flashing of the roof. While it may not seem like a huge issue, it actually leads to the sealant cracking, which then leads to leaks in the roof. The downside to this issue is that all of the old sealant must be fully removed before new sealant can be put on the flashing. It is a bit time consuming, but doing this part of a roof installation correctly can save you from much larger projects down the road.  .

SHINER NAILS

The last problem that we’re going to talk about in today’s blog is known as a shiner. Shiner nails are nails that are popping through the roofing deck. This often happens when the wrong type of fastener was used. They were given their name because of the shine that they give off when the frost comes over and the sun shines on them. The difficult thing about this particular problem is that shiners can only really be seen when you’re in the attic. For many homeowners, that leaves this as an issue that becomes a bigger problem that, more often than not, could have been avoided. We suggest a roof inspection to check for shiner nails if you’re having doubts about the roofer that you hired.
